Severe storms Monday in Philadelphia region could affect France-Iraq's World Cup match. Here's the forecast. - CBS News

Updated on: June 22, 2026 / 7:45 PM EDT / CBS Philadelphia A NEXT Weather Alert is in effect today in the Philadelphia region for storms and heavy rain in the afternoon and night. Several storms will likely turn severe with damaging winds, intense lightning and the threat of isolated tornadoes. The tornado warnings in effect for parts of Montgomery, Chester and Delaware counties expired at 5:30 p.m. Part of Berks County was also under a tornado warning Monday. There will also be periods of heavy rain for parts of the area that may cause flash flooding. A severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. has been issued for the greater Philadelphia region.  A flash flood warning is in effect in Burlington, Bucks, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties until 10:30 p.m. Another flash flood warning is in effect in Delaware County until 9 p.m. All of this will cause longer evening commute times, delays in air travel, delays or postponements of outdoor activities, including Monday night's 2026 Men's World Cup match at Lincoln Financial Field. Power outages are also possible. Philadelphia's FIFA Fan Festival has already closed for the remainder of Monday. By Wednesday, dry, seasonable and sunny conditions will return. The Philadelphia region is at level two out of five on the severe storm risk. The Delaware Valley is also in a level two of four for excessive rainfall risk.  The main threats of the storms will be damaging winds, intense lightning, isolated tornadoes and 1 to 2 inches of heavy rain in some areas, including localized flash flooding.  Monday: NEXT Weather Alert for storms.
