Ryan YoungStaff writerSun, June 21, 2026 at 2:48 AM UTCWyndham Clark is absolutely dominating at Shinnecock Hills. On a day in which only two players went under par, Clark somehow managed to push his lead to a ridiculous six strokes after the third round of the U.S. Open on Saturday. He carded a even-par 70 to build his advantage and secure a spot in the final group. Scottie Scheffler and Emiliano Grillo were the only golfers to finish in the red on Saturday. Scheffler posted a 1-under 69, which got him at 1-under for the tournament and in a tie for second. And it very easily could have been one better had Scheffler not missed a short 3-foot birdie putt at 18. Regardless, he'll take it, especially after a bogey-bogey start to his round. But so far, Clark has not retreated. He's grinded his way around Shinnecock and drained just about everything inside of eight feet to maintain his comfortable lead. He even made an eagle at the 16th after landing his approach at the par-5 right next to the cup. If Clark can pull off the win, it'd mark his second U.S. Open victory after the one he claimed in Los Angeles in 2023. He won on the PGA Tour last month at The CJ Cup, too, and hasn't finished worse than T11 since. Only three players have ever finished under par at the previous five U.S. Opens held at Shinnecock Hills, and none lower than 4-under. Clark is already in historic territory. And so far, nobody has been able to come close to catching him. Clark and Scheffler will go off in the final group on Sunday afternoon. We'll see if he can hold on.
